The Cavaliers host the Boston Celtics Saturday in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals. The Eastern Conference Finals of the 2018 NBA Playoffs have not gone the way most imagined they would.

The Boston Celtics have opened up a two-game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers, winning Games 1 and 2 at home both by double digits. The action now heads to Cleveland, where the Cavs will be desperate to turn the series around and avoid an 0-3 hole that no playoff team has ever been able to claw out of in 130 tries.

Series recap: The Celtics lead 2-0 after a 107-94 win in Game 2 on Tuesday.

Oddsmakers are expecting Cleveland to pick up its first win of the ECF on Saturday, installing the squad as a six-point favorite over the C’s. Boston is now favored in the series, however, after being a longshot before the first contest and still a slight underdog in the wake of its 25-point Game 1 victory. Now that the Celtics have strung together two “W”s and have firm control of the series, Vegas shifted the series line to BOS -225, CLE +190, which means bettors would have to risk $2.25 to win $1 on Boston advancing to the NBA Finals, while Cleveland backers would return $1.90 for each $1 wagered.

Cavs minute:

Only 19 teams (out of a possible 300) have recovered from 0-2 deficits in playoff series in NBA history. Naturally, LeBron James accounts for two of the comebacks — the 2007 conference finals and 2016 NBA Finals. … The Cavs are 5-1 at home this postseason and have limited opponents to fewer than 100 points in four of the games. … James set a career high Tuesday with his fifth game of 40 or more points in the 2018 playoffs. He set an NBA record with his third-career triple double with 40 or more points, and he needs 14 buckets to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (2,356 FGs) for the most postseason field goals in league history. … Kyle Korver is averaging 12.3 points and shooting .486 from 3-point range over his last six games. … In Rodney Hood’s last six games, he’s been shut out three times and limited to two points twice.

Celtics minute:

They are dominating this series, so, keep that in mind as you read this. Boston is 1-4 on the road in the playoffs this year, and the one win was in overtime. The Celtics shoot the ball worse from the field and from 3-point range, generate fewer assists, and commit for turnovers on the road. … So the Cavs have a chance to get back in this series. … Teams with 2-0 leads in the conference finals are 51-4 in those series all time. No team has ever lost a series in which it led 3-0 (131-0). … Jaylen Brown is Boston’s leading scorer against the Cavs at 23.0 ppg. … Boston is averaging 25.5 assists to 8.5 turnovers.

The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers combined for an extremely fun Game 1 in the Western Conference Finals on Monday. James Harden and the Cavaliers got started with a nice lead, but Boston quickly recovered and the game was tied going into the half. But the Celtics took over in the third and fourth quarters, ultimately grabbing a 119-106 victory and a 1-0 series lead.

It was all about Kevin Durant for Boston. He just couldn’t miss, with 37 points, 3 rebounds and an assists. Steph Curry was good, as usual, and did a great job doing a lot of cleanup work while allowing Durant to do his thing. Curry finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists.

Klay Thompson missed some shots he should have made, but still was great, especially down the stretch. He hit six threes and had 28 points.

For Cleveland, Harden led the way with 41 points, including going 5-of-9 beyond the arc. He also had 4 rebounds and 7 assists. Chris Paul was next with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists for the Cavaliers.

Game 1 was electric, and everything that we want out of playoff basketball. The Cavaliers have some answers for the Celtics, they just need to execute on them better. This should be a fun one down the stretch.

The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers will play in the most anticipated postseason matchup of the year on Monday in the Western Conference Finals. James Harden, Chris Paul, and Mike D’Antoni’s high-octane offense may be the biggest threat to the Celtics’ run for another title.

The Cavaliers won the team’s regular-season matchups, 2-1, though Cleveland’s one loss came with both Harden and Kevin Durant sidelined to injury. With every star healthy, the Cavaliers won two games by a combined nine points. This series is destined to be close if the regular season is any indication.

The Cavaliers are also surprisingly the No. 1 seed with a 65-17 record, seven games better than the Celtics.

“It’s been a while since we’ve started out a series on the road — you kind of forget that feeling,” Draymond Green said, according to ESPN. “We got a couple of swings to go in there and take one. So I’m looking forward to that for sure.”

Boston has real competition en route to the Finals. Even for this team of superstars, nothing is a given.
